The Travelers Detective Club introduces us to Travis, Marcus, and Maddison. A surprise delivery introduces them to Baako, and soon, they are helping the lovable stuffed bird battle an Evil Wizard with the help of some other animal friends.
Voak doesn’t waste time with The Travelers Detective Club – we are shoved right into the middle of the adventure within the first two pages, and it is perfectly executed. The slow and deliberate introduction of characters is seamless, and one does not feel overwhelmed, but welcomes each new addition as a well-timed expansion in the world she has created.
Small, almost imperceptible lessons permeate, and Roger’s evolution as a typical bully offers an empathetic approach that readers will find warming.
The novella is edited perfectly, paced well, and offers a cozy little adventure that children will find fun and familiar. Highly recommended.
